Topics

Issues with URLs after launch of new USF website

  • URLs published in some printed documents may not be valid due to improper/missing redirects, e.g. USF Viewbook
  • new URLs may be longer than those on the previous USF website and difficult to format/size for printed documents
    • use short URLs in your documents which utilize 301 redirects within your website to send users to a destination on the main USF website
  • Be sure to use the Fully Qualified Domain Name when linking to a document on the top-level USF website, e.g.

Heat Maps

Because webpages are consumed in a much different manner than printed material it’s important to know how users interact with your website. One of the chief differences between printed and web-based material is that web pages are scanned, not read. For more information, please refer to the article titled “F-Shaped Pattern For Reading Web Content” by Dr. Jakob Nielsen.

Other Topics

  • Audience segmentation as a tool to aid the development of website menus
